
KUSHTIA, June 16, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered drugs, Indian firecrackers and other contraband goods worth approximately Taka 19 lakh in three separate operations along the Kushtia border, officials said on Tuesday.
Lieutenant Colonel Rashed Kamal Rony, commander of the BGB-47 Battalion, confirmed the recoveries during a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
Based on information, BGB members conducted a raid in the Joypur Mathpara area under the jurisdiction of Jamalpur Border Outpost (BOP) around 8.15 pm on Monday.
During the operation, they recovered 1.4 kilograms of cannabis, 40 bottles of intoxicating syrup and 4,550 dexamethasone tablets abandoned by unidentified smugglers.
In a separate operation carried out at approximately 1:00 pm on the same day in the Kazipur Borderpara field area under Kazipur BOP, BGB personnel seized 14,440 pieces of Indian-made chocolate firecrackers that were found without any claimant.
Another raid was conducted early today around 4:30 am in Goura Mistripara graveyard area under Pragpur BOP. During the operation, BGB recovered 2,800 packets of Indian leaf bidis that had also been left abandoned.
BGB officials said the combined estimated market value of the seized drugs and smuggled goods is Taka 19,00,900.
