DHAKA, May 19, 2025 (BSS) – Rumor Scanner, a Bangladesh based fact-checking platform, has identified the viral video claiming to show US President Donald Trump commenting on Sheikh Hasina, as AI generated and fabricated.

In a report, the organization revealed that the video was digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI). Specifically, the clip in question claimed Trump had said, “Sheikh Hasina is still the Prime Minister of Bangladesh,” which Rumor Scanner confirmed Trump never stated.

Upon review, analysts at Rumor Scanner noted inconsistencies between Trump's lip movements and the audio in the video. A reverse image search found other videos of Trump wearing the same outfit and standing in the same location, but none included the statement in question.

No reputable national or international media outlet has published any such remarks, either in video or written form.

The fake video also claimed that Trump would visit Bangladesh on May 15. But a visit by a high-profile figure like Trump would be widely reported, yet there has been no credible report confirming such a trip, the report said.

The investigation concluded that the video used AI-generated audio to falsely attribute comments to Trump, and no evidence supports the claim that he made any statement about Sheikh Hasina.

Rumor Scanner also noted a rise in the spread of false information related to Bangladesh, particularly from Indian media and social media accounts based in India.

In April alone, the organization identified 296 pieces of misinformation circulating online.
