CHATTOGRAM, March 27, 2026 (BSS) - A ship carrying a total of 30,000 tonnes of fuel oil-10,000 tonnes of diesel and 20,000 tonnes of jet oil- has docked at Chattogram port today.

Chattogram Port Secretary Syed Refaet Hamim confirmed today that a ship named 'MT Gran Kuva' arrived at Chattogram port on Thursday (March 26). Chinese company Unipec supplied the ship of fuel as per the agreement. Due to global instability, there is some uncertainty in the supply schedule, but this new shipment is expected to provide some relief.

Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Senior General Manager Yusuf Hossain Bhuiyan said  that the ship is carrying 20,000 tonnes of diesel and 10,000 tonnes of jet fuel. Currently, there are 200,000 tonnes of diesel in stock, and the newly arrived fuel will boost the overall stock. The imported diesel will be used in the transport and industrial sectors, while the jet fuel will be supplied to various airports in the country.

This is the ninth oil tanker to arrive in the country this month, with a total of 17 ships scheduled to arrive.

BPC imports and supplies five categories of fuel oil, including diesel, petrol, octane, and jet fuel.

Recent challenges in fuel management were caused by global fuel price increases and supply delays, exacerbated by conflicts in the Middle East.

BPC Chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman confirmed that a ship arrived on schedule this morning, ensuring no fuel shortages in the country. Efforts are underway to source oil from alternative suppliers.

BPC typically imports fuel through government-to-government (G2G) agreements and international tenders, with an annual import volume of 65 to 68 lakh tons.

Approximately 1.5 million tons of crude oil, mainly from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, are imported, with 20 percent refined domestically and the remaining 80 percent imported in refined form from countries like India, China, and Indonesia.
