LALMONIRHAT, March 27, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu today said the traditional fair held in Sindurmati area of the district has set a unique example of communal harmony.

He made the remark while addressing a meeting as the chief guest after visiting the traditional Sindurmati fair at the bank of Sindurmati Dighi in Panchgram Union of Sadar upazila in the district.

Dulu said the spontaneous participation of people from different religions, alongside Hindu community members, in Sindurmati reflects a strong bond of mutual empathy, cooperation, and love.

He said country must move forward embracing this spirit of harmony.

The state minister said certain vested quarters are attempting to create instability by spreading misleading information on social media. He urged all concerned to refrain from such provocative activities.

Dulu said Sindurmati area had seen no notable development for a long time in the past. The present government has taken various initiatives to ensure infrastructural development, strengthen security, and facilitate visitors centering this pilgrimage site, he said, adding development activities are already underway.

He said the government land in Sindurmati will be freed from encroachment and efforts will continue to improve the religious environment, including beautification of the temple and surrounding areas.

Calling upon all to work together with patriotism, forgetting all divisions, the minister said, “The country will move further ahead through united efforts of all.”

Every year, on the ninth lunar day of the month of Chaitra, followers of the Hindu religion take a holy dip in the Sindurmati Dighi. Following that tradition, a large fair has also been organized there this year.

The traditional fair, centered around the dighi (lake) located at the far end of Panchgram Union in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila, near the border area of Rajarhat upazila in Kurigram, has created a festive atmosphere with the gathering of hundreds of thousands of people from different districts of the country.

Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner H.M. Rakib Haider, Superintendent of Police Md. Asaduzzaman, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mononita Das, Lalmonirhat district BNP joint general secretary Mominul Haque, and  joint assistant general secretary ABM Faruk Siddiqui, along with senior officials of the local administration and political leaders, were present.
