CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, Mar 19, 2026 (BSS)- The Chittagong University (CU) authorities has postponed the syndicate elections for the dean and provost categories which was scheduled for April 15 and April 12 respectively.

The decision of the postponement came two days after Prof. Mohammad Al-Forkan assumed office of the Vice-Chancellor.

Acting Registrar of the university Prof. Dr. Mohammad Saiful Islam said, “The new Vice-Chancellor want to reorganise the administration in his own way. From that point of view, he has felt that the elections should be postponed and held later.

Syndicate member from the assistant professor category Mohammad Ali said, the dean elections should have been held first, and then the syndicate member from the dean category should have been elected from among the elected deans. But the previous administration did not do that.

Asked about the reason behind the postponement, newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan said, “I have just assumed office. I need some time to reorganise the administration. We will announce the syndicate elections soon, Inshallah.”

The university currently has 10 faculties and 14 residential halls. In this context representation of both dean and provost categories in the syndicate are important.

On March 16, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Al-Forkan of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology was appointed as the new vice-chancellor of the university. He formally joined the post on March 17.
