DHAKA, April 6, 2026 (BSS) - The Governing Body of the International Labour Organization (ILO) has applauded the newly elected government of Bangladesh for formulating labour-friendly policies.

Prime Minister's Office (PMO) spokesperson Mahdi Amin said this while talking to journalists at the Bangladesh Secretariat here this afternoon after returning home from Switzerland after attending the ILO Governing Body meeting held there recently.

He said discussions were held at the meeting regarding a possible visit of the ILO Director General to Bangladesh in June.

Mahdi Amin, also Prime Minister's adviser, said that an international conference on artificial intelligence (AI) will be held in Geneva in July under the initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has been invited to attend the conference by the UN Secretary General, he added.

Noting that Bangladesh will become a role model in manpower export globally, PMO spokesperson said, "We had a bilateral meeting with Saudi Arabia. The discussion focused on how we can send more skilled and qualified workers from Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia and how we can increase joint collaboration in our technical training institutes."

He said that discussions were also held on various ways to strengthen the bilateral relations, such as how Bangladesh can utilize Saudi Arabia's technical excellence in Arabic language education.

"Our main goal is to increase manpower export from Bangladesh to Saudi Arabia in all categories -- skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled. We discussed this with the Saudi government," Mahdi Amin said.

The government's main objective is to create extensive employment opportunities for the youth of this democratic Bangladesh both at home and abroad, he said, adding that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has emphasised learning third-language to make young people more skilled and competent.

"Through language education, we want to make Bangladesh a global role model in exporting manpower to the whole world," the PMO spokesperson said.

He expressed hope that under the Prime Minister's leadership, labour rights will be protected in Bangladesh through labour-friendly policies.

Mahdi Amin said he believed that in the future Bangladesh, workers and employers will work shoulder to shoulder to move the country forward.
