Court remands one in Keraniganj gas lighter factory fire case

DHAKA, April 06, 2026 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed one Iman Ullah alias Mastan, 50, on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the devastating fire at a gas lighter manufacturing factory at Kadamtali Golchattar in Keraniganj, which claimed the lives of six people.

Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Tanvir Ahmed passed the order after holding a hearing on the matter.

Police arrested Iman from Kadamtali area under South Keraniganj Police Station on April 5. He was produced before the court on that day and the police had pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand in the case.

The court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah, however, sent the accused to jail and set today for holding hearing on the matter.

The fire broke out at the factory at around 1:10 pm on April 4. Seven units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence brought the blaze under control at around 2:30 pm. Later bodies of six victims were recovered from the scene.

Police later filed the case against three, Akram Ullah Akram, Iman Ullah Mastan and Akram’s son Ahnaf Akif Akram.
