Heatwave to continue for 4 to 5 days, Rajshahi experiencing most

DHAKA, Apr 23, 2026 (BSS)-  Ongoing sweltering heatwave will continue over the country for the next four to five days, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
    
“The ongoing scorching heatwave will continue till April 25 next and it may calm down a little bit after April 26 and is likely to continue till April 28 to 29,” Meteorologist Md Shaheenul Islam told BSS.

Mentioning that this is the longest spell of heatwave occurred this year, he said one to two spells of heatwave may take place over the country in May next as heatwave usually hit the country during March to May each year. 

About rainfall, Shaheenul said scattered rainfall is occurring in different parts of the country, including Sylhet region, but the frequency of precipitation will go up after April 26.
   
While Rajshahi district is experiencing most severe heatwave, mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping over the rest parts of Rajshahi  Khulna divisions and the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Dinajpur, Brahmanbaria, Laxmipur, Rangamati and Bandarban, he said adding the weather pattern many may for more few days.


Met office forecast said rain/thunder showers, accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes, is likely to occur at one or two places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places in next 24 hours commencing 9 am.
 
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country. Day temperature may remain nearly unchanged and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, a Met office bulletin said.

The highest temperature on Wednesday was 40 degree Celsius in Rajshahi and today’s minimum temperature is 19.5 degree Celsius in Sylhet.
