
RAJSHAHI, April 23, 2026 (BSS)- The ‘International Girls in ICT Day 2026’ has been celebrated at Rajshahi University (RU) today with the aim of increasing women's participation in the information and communication technology sector.
The Information and Communication Engineering (ICE) Department of RU organized a day-long program to mark the celebration of the day.
The event, held under the theme ‘AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future,’ took place at the Jamal Nazrul Islam Science Building.
This theme highlights the critical need for more female participation in STEM and technology, specifically focusing on empowering girls to lead and innovate in the era of artificial intelligence.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Faridul Islam inaugurated the program as the chief guest at the opening ceremony.
Also present at the time were the department’s Chairman Professor Halida Homayra, Controller of Examinations Professor Hasnat Kabir, Administrator of the Central Cafeteria Professor Aurangzeb Abdur Rahman, Director of the Office of International Affairs Professor Muhammad Sajjadur Rahim, along with other faculty members and students of the department.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor said that the active participation of women is essential for building a technology-driven Bangladesh.
The advancement of girls in the ICT sector is also crucial for the country's development. He urged the students to foster innovative thinking and focus on research.
The day-long event included a programming contest, ICT Olympiad, seminar, idea presentation, and project showcasing, among others.
The program, organized by the ICE Association, was supported by the IEEE Bangladesh Section, IEEE WIE AG BDS, IEEE RU WIE AG, and the IEEE RU Student Branch.
