DHAKA, April 7, 2026 (BSS) - Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir today conducted sudden inspections of the capital's edible oil markets to monitor the current supply and marketing situation.

The minister visited Karwan Bazar and Shantinagar kitchen markets in the evening, accompanied by Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman, said a press release.

During the visit, he spoke with dealers, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers to gather firsthand information on the supply chain.

Retailers informed the minister that they are receiving less supply than their requirements, with a significant shortage noted in the availability of five-liter bottled oil.

While the price of bottled soybean oil remains stable, buyers reported its scarcity in the market.

In contrast, the price of loose soybean oil has increased slightly.

Furthermore, retailers alleged that some oil company dealers are forcing them to purchase other products as a condition for receiving edible oil.

However, the inspection found that the supply of bottled soybean oil for most brands was nearly normal, although two specific brands had lower availability.

Several shops were also found selling new brands of soybean oil.

Minister Muktadir assured consumers and traders that the supply situation would improve very soon.
