
DHAKA, Apr 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has strengthened its nationwide drive to prevent an artificial crisis of edible oil, conducting multiple mobile court drives and taking strict legal action against dishonest traders, hoarders, and black marketers.
In recent days, RAB has intensified coordinated efforts to stabilize the edible oil market by increasing intelligence surveillance and conducting mobile court operations across the country, according to a press release.
On April 7, 2026, under the supervision of RAB-8, mobile courts raided three businesses houses in Patuakhali Sadar, fining them a total of Tk 11,000 while also issuing warnings and raising awareness among traders.
On the same day, RAB carried out a drive in Chattogram metropolitan area, where authorities seized 1,042 liters of edible oil due to violations including lack of BSTI approval, illegal bottling, misuse of company labels, and absence of quality control certification.
Additionally, fines totaling Tk 60,000 were imposed for illegally stockpiling 9,600 liters of oil at Mabiya Store in Nasirabad and 12,000 liters at Khaja Store in Karnaphuli Complex, allegedly intended to create an artificial shortage.
On April 8, 2026, RAB conducted further mobile court operations in several areas of the capital, including Tejgaon Industrial Area, Hazaribagh, Mohammadpur Agricultural Market, and Tongi Raw Market.
During these drives, authorities identified a total of 114,442 liters of edible oil.
Magistrates imposed fines amounting to Tk 71,000, while 22,642 liters of oil were seized from differnt organisations.
RAB officials stated that such drive will continue across the country to prevent market manipulation and ensure fair supply of essential commodities.
Alongside these efforts, the force is maintaining regular patrols, intelligence monitoring, and operational activities to curb terrorism and other criminal activities, ensuring overall law and order in the country.
