Legal Aid recovers Tk 322.91 cr for insolvent litigants

DHAKA, April 11, 2026 (BSS) - The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has recovered more than Taka 321.91 crore in compensation for insolvent litigants, according to a report published on its website.

The report covers the period from 2009 to March, 2026 and states that Tk 321,91,60,584 was realised through pre- and post-case legal assistance.

Of the total amount, Tk 314,94,48,459 was recovered through 64 district legal aid offices, while Tk 6,97,11,916 was realised through labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

During the same period, 14,37,736 beneficiaries received government-funded legal assistance.

At present, legal aid services are being delivered through legal aid offices in all 64 districts, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, labour legal aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram and a national toll-free helpline (16699).

The initiative operates under the Legal Aid Services Act to ensure access to justice for disadvantaged citizens.
