Bangladesh must be placed above all interests: Mir Helal

CHATTOGRAM, April 19, 2026 (BSS) - Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs State Minister Mir Mohammed Helal Uddin today said that Bangladesh must always be placed above all other interests, calling for national unity in advancing the country while safeguarding its dignity.

He made the remarks while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the first Hajj flight at Shah Amanat International Airport, organized by Biman Bangladesh Airlines. 

Earlier, he distributed Hajj essentials among pilgrims of the first Jeddah-bound flight.

The state minister urged pilgrims to pray for their families, the country and global peace during their stay in the holy land of Saudi Arabia, particularly for an end to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

He also called for special prayers for the success of national development efforts aimed at building a peaceful and prosperous Bangladesh.

On the occasion, he distributed essential Hajj items, including attar and tasbih among 419 pilgrims.

He assured that strict security measures have been taken to ensure a safe and smooth Hajj journey.

Officials of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, including Chattogram airport manager Al Mamun and Airport Director Group Captain Sheikh Abdullah Al Alamgir, were present.

A total of 5,675 pilgrims will travel from Chattogram this year through 16 flights.
