
MUNSHIGANJ, May 28 (BSS) - A total of 160,674 vehicles crossed the bridge through the Mawa and Zajira ends, generating toll revenue of Tk 18,04,08,200 in four days last as Eid holidaymakers from 21 southern districts returned to their village homes without major inconvenience.
According to the Padma Bridge site office, on May 24, some 31,985 vehicles crossed the bridge and toll collection stood at Tk 3 crore 84 lakh 17 thousand 200.
On May 25, a total of 44,008 vehicles crossed the bridge, generating Tk 4 crore 80 lakh 15 thousand 350 in tolls.
On May 26, some 45,602 vehicles crossed the bridge and toll collection reached Tk 5 crore 3 lakh 24 thousand 450.
On May 27, a total of 39,079 vehicles crossed the bridge, generating Tk 4 crore 36 lakh 51 thousand 200 in toll revenue.
Authorities concerned took several measures to ensure smooth Eid travel, resulting in no long queues at the Mawa toll plaza this year. Passengers also did not have to wait for hours due to traffic congestion.
Executive Engineer of the Padma Bridge site office Abu Sayeed told BSS that 10 booths, including three motorcycle booths, were opened at the Mawa end, while nine booths, including two motorcycle booths, were opened at the Zajira end to ensure quick toll payment and smooth movement of vehicles on the Dhaka–Mawa Expressway,.
He added that similar arrangements would be made after Eid to facilitate the smooth return of passengers to their workplaces in Dhaka via the Padma Bridge.
