DHAKA, May 28, 2026 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has removed more than 5,644 tonnes of sacrificial animal waste within six hours under its special waste management programme for Eid-ul-Azha.

“The DNCC authorities removed 5,644.61 tonnes of waste between 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm from different areas under the city corporation,” a DNCC official said.

The DNCC has set a target to remove a total of 20,889 tonnes of waste generated during Eid-ul-Azha. Of the total, around 10,614 tonnes are expected to be removed within 12 hours on the Eid day.

Alongside 6,500 DNCC cleaners, an additional 4,500 waste collection workers have been engaged in the disposal programme, said DNCC Deputy Chief Waste Management Officer M Mafizur Rahman Bhuiyan.

Besides, around 5,500 volunteers -- 100 in each ward -- are supervising the cleaning activities. In total, nearly 16,000 personnel are currently working in the field for waste management.

To support the disposal operation, the DNCC has distributed 1,630,000 polybags and 3,600 sacks of disinfectant bleaching powder.

A total of 752 vehicles, including trucks, dumpers, payloaders, water vehicles, compactor trucks and road sweepers, are being used in the waste disposal programme.

Alongside routine activities, the city corporation is conducting a special cleaning drive during Eid to keep the capital clean for residents.
