National Summer Athletics competition begins tomorrow

DHAKA, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS)- The 17th National Summer Athletics competition, 
organised by Bangladesh Athletics Federation (BAF), begins at National 
Stadium here on Friday (tomorrow).

Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan is expected to inaugurate 
the three-day meet as the chief guest.
 
The competition will feature 40 events-- 22 of men's and 18 of women's-- in 
two groups. 

An electronic photo finishing machine will be used to record the results and 
timing of the running events.

The marathon event of the competition will be held tomorrow (Friday) morning 
at 300-feet road in the capital's Purbachal area while all other throwing 
events, except the javelin throw, will be held at Bangladesh Army Stadium.

The BAF decided to give 40 national sports awardees in athletics (athletes 
and organizers categories). 

The chief guest will present the mementos honour to recipients after the 
Friday's opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, the athletes who will secure first, second and third position in 
the competition will be given cash prizes of Taka 5,000, 3,000 and 2,000 
respectively by the federation and the record-holding athletes will be given 
a cash prize of Taka 20,000.

In addition, American expatriate former fastest athlete Shah Jalal Mobin, 
will give a cash prize of Taka 40,000 to the athletes who won first , second 
and third place in the 100-meter sprint in men's and women's events.

It was disclosed at a press conference held at the conference room of 
National Stadium in the capital today (Thursday).

BAF vice-president Iqbal Hossain, its general secretary Md Shah Alam and 
joint secretary Kitab Ali were present, among others, in the press 
conference.
