SAFF U-17: Bangladesh conceded 2-0 defeat to India

DHAKA, Aug 22, 2025 (BSS)-Bangladesh suffered a 2-0 goal defeat to strong India in the big match of four-nation SAFF U-17 Women's Championship held at Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu today (Friday).

It was the second successive victory for India after thrashing Nepal 7-0 in the opening match of the tournament while Bangladesh suffered their first defeat after beating host Bhutan by 3-1 goals.     

With the win, India improved their tally with six points from two matches while Bangladesh remained at their previous collection of three points playing the same number of matches.

The early breakthrough came for India in the 14th minute. Pearl Fernandes gave India a deserving lead with her solo effort. After taking a pass from the midfield, she darted down and send the ball to the net with a perfect left footer placing shot.

After the resumption, the second goal came following a well-worked corner routine in the 76th minute. Alisha floated a delivery from the left shot, and unmarked Bonifilia Shullai, standing at the small D-box, executing the goal with a tap giving no chance to custodian Yearzan.

Bangladesh will play their third match of the tournament against Nepal on August 24 at the same venue.
