DHAKA, Aug 24, 2025 (BSS)- Young opener Jisan Alam put him in the national
team selection radar through a consistent performance over the years.
The opener who had already caught the attention due to his bold approach was
in discussion when national selectors sat for the Asia Cup squad, said BCB
Selection Panel Chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu.
"When we discussed about the squad, many names came up. Jisan is one of
them," he said while explaining about the squad.
"We are keeping an eye on him. In my opinion, he needs some time to mature,
to be ready for international cricket."
The former Under-19 players Jisan hogged the limelight during the NCL T20
last year. Jisan, also the son of former national opener Jahangir Alam struck
a superb century in almost 200 strike rate to put his name amongst the future
openers of Bangladesh.
Since then he continuously scored runs at healthy strike rate, which is
essential for T20 format.
"We don't want to include anyone too easily. And at the same we don't want to
drop someone too easily," the chief selector said.
"We want cricketers to come out of this trend. We want them to transfer to A
team or other team from the domestic stage and then make them ready for the
national team."
Soumya Sarkar, who was dropped from the Asia Cup squad, has experience in
international cricket for more than 10 years. He has got opportunities again
and again, but due to lack of consistency, he did not get a place despite
being in the 25-member preliminary squad.
"Soumya is now the third opener. After playing 89 matches, he knows what to
do to come back. He has the ability, he just has to hone his skill more,"
Ashraf added.
