Govt distributes 462.88 metric tons rice among fishermen in Manikganj

MANIKGANJ, March 16, 2025 (BSS) - The government has completed distribution of 462.88 metric tons of rice among 2893 poor and marginal fishermen families of three Upazilas of the district to abstain them from catching Jatka for two months under Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programmes.

Manikganj District Fisheries Officer (DFO) Md. Saifur Rahman confirmed the matter to BSS today.

The distribution of rice has already been completed in the first phases among the fishermen families of the three upazilas of the district besides the bank of the river Padma and Jamuna Harirampur, Shibalaya and Daulatpur upazila, he said.

Each of the fishermen card holder family received a total of 80 Kilograms of rice, 40 Kilograms for each month.

The DFO said the government has allocated 160 kilograms of rice for each poor family for four months in two phases, adding that the first phase have already been completed.

He said the rice was distributed among the poor and distressed fishermen families to increase the production of Hilsha fish in the country.
