CHATTOGRAM, April 16, 2025 (BSS) - A Chattogram court today sentenced two people to death for the murder of a woman in the city's Akbarshah area over a family dispute in 2020.

The court of Chattogram Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sirajam Munira handed down the verdict, convicting the victim's husband Md. Farhad, 32, son of Md. Shahjahan, and his uncle Md. Selim alias Monir, 37, son of late Abul Hashem. Both are residents of Bhola district.

The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default; they will have to serve six more months in jail.

According to the prosecution, victim Jasmine Begum and convict Md. Farhad were in a romantic relationship and got married, although both had previous families.

On September 21, 2020, Farhad asked Jasmine to meet him in the Bahaddarhat area. When she arrived, he strangled her and later dumped the body.

Police recovered her decomposed body from the Akbarshah hilly area on October 2.

The victim's younger brother filed a murder case with Akbarshah Police Station on the same day. Police submitted the charge sheet before the court on December 28, 2021, and charges were framed on August 17, 2022.
