ACC arrests five, including four officials of Dist. Accounts Office

PIROZPUR, April 17, 2025(BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested five people including four officials of the district accounts office for their alleged involvement in corruption during the previous Awami League government.

A team of the ACC led by its Deputy Director of the district integrated office Md Aminul Islam arrested them from their offices on Wednesday and handed them over to Pirojpur Sadar Thana custody.

The arrested persons are - Md Mohsin, District Accounts and Finance Officer, Md Masum Hawlader and Nazrul Islam, both are superintendents of the same office, Md Alamgir Hossain, former district accounts and finance officer and AKM Mozammel Haque Khan, Accountant of the Local Government and Engineering Department (LGED).

The District Integrated Office of the ACC filed eight separate corruption cases against 23 people on Wednesday. The arrested five persons were also accused in those cases.

The Local Government Division of the LGRD Ministry and head office of the LGED conducted several investigations and found evidences of huge corruption. Those committees found that the district accounts office had paid over Taka 2500 crore to the contractors before completion of the work and conducted irregularities worth about Taka 1101 crore.

After finding proof of the corruption, the ACC lodged cases in this regard.
