Govt to procure paddy directly from genuine farmers: DG food

SUNAMGANJ, April 17, 2025 (BSS) - Directorate General of Food Director General Md Abul Hasanath Humayun Kabir today said the government will procure paddy directly from genuine farmers to stop harassment of farmers and remove the influence of middlemen and brokers.

"The government has taken the porgramme to ensure fair price of produced paddy of genuine farmers and help them easily store paddy in the warehouse," he told a views-exchange meeting with mill owners and food directorate officials on Boro paddy collection programme at DC's Office here.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Ilias Mia chaired the programme.
Kabir said the list of genuine farmers will be compiled by verifying the agricultural cards in phases.

Paddy and rice collection campaign will start in Sunamganj district from April 24 as the government has set a target of collecting 14,000 tons of paddy from 12 upazilas of the district.

He said this year it has been decided to purchase paddy at Taka 36 per kg and Taka 1,440 per maund.
