Three arrested with looted gold in Bagerhat

BAGERHAT, August 9, 2025(BSS)-Chitolmari Police arrested three alleged dacoits and recovered gold ornaments worth about Taka 50 lakh along with a grinder machine used in the robbery from Chitolmari upazila under Bagerhat district yesterday.

The arrestees were identified as Emdadul Khan, 38, son of late Manjurul Khan of Aruaborni village; Sajal Basu, 38, son of Santosh Kumar Basu of Char Baniari village; and Shuvro Basu, 24, son of Surja Kanta Basu of Shibpur village in Chitolmari upazila.

According to police, the accused along with their accomplices looted gold ornaments and other valuables from New Mondal Jewelers at Chitolmari Bazaar on the night of August 3.

Following the incident, Taposh Kumar Mondal, owner of the jewelry shop, filed a case with Chitolmari Thana.

Acting on a tip-off and using modern technology, a team of police led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahdat Hossain of Chitolmari Thana conducted a drive and arrested the trio. The looted gold ornaments and a grinder machine used in the robbery were recovered from the house of Emdadul Khan.

The arrested persons were produced before a Bagerhat court for further legal action.
