Two held with smuggled goods worth Tk 2.5 crore in Sylhet

SYLHET, Aug 9, 2025 (BSS) – Police arrested two people with huge quantities of Indian smuggled goods worth about Taka 2.5 crore from Beanibazar upazila of the district today.

The arrested are Zahed Ahmed, 24, son of Sainul Haque of Satpari village in Kanaighat upazila of the district, and Hasan Imran, 20, son of Moin Uddin of the same area.

Police arrested them along with the goods during a search at a check post on the Sylhet-Zakiganj road in the Charkhai area of Beanibazar upazila around 8:30 am, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Beanibazar Police Station Ashraf Uzzaman.

The Indian cosmetics were being smuggled from different areas along the border of Zakiganj and Kanaighat upazilas.

On receiving information, police searched a stone-laden truck on the Kaskatkha-Lalpur Bridge in the area and seized the goods, the OC said.
