RANGPUR, Aug 13, 2025 (BSS) - Socio-cultural and literary figures have said in a discussion that Bishwa Kobi Rabindranath Tagore's unparalleled contribution in enriching the Bengali language, literature and culture is memorable.
They came up with the opinion at a special function organised by Rangpur Sahitya-Sanskriti Parishad (RSSP) at its office in the city marking the 84th death anniversary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore on Tuesday night.
To mark the day, the RSSP chalked out programmes including discussion on the life, philosophy, literary works, social welfare and cultural activities of Tagore, rendering of his songs, recitations of poems and a cultural evening.
The observance began with the song by Rabindranath "Anandaloke Mangalaloke Birajo Satya Sundaro".
President of the RSSP Dr Nasima Akter presided over the function and presented an article on the theme "You are not in front of the eyes...you have taken the place in the middle of the eyes".
President of Rangpur Cultural Unity Parishad Chowdhury Mahmudunnabi Dollar delivered the welcome speech.
Eminent writer, educationist Professor Mohammad Shah Alam, writer, cultural personality Dr Mofizul Islam Maantu, poet and writer Abdur Razzaque discussed the life, human philosophy, literary works, social welfare and cultural activities of Tagore.
Poets and literary figures Niresh Mukherjee, Kajal Chandra Roy and Abdul Quddus participated in the recitation of Rabindranath's poems.
Rabindra Sangeet was performed by prominent musicians Tripti Dutta, Swapan Kumar Pal, Rawshan Ara Soheli, Sufi Zahid Hossain, Mallika Sharma, Ajibar Rahman, Pushpajit Roy, Arefin Badal, Sneha, Tirtha Das and Prothom Roy.
Rabindra Sangeet was performed in a collective voice by RSSP artists and flute instructor of the music department of Jamil Memorial Library Dr Ajibar Rahman and his students.
RSSP General Secretary Mamun Ur Rashid moderated the whole programme from 7:40 pm to 11 pm.
