DINAJPUR, Aug 15, 2025 (BSS) - The couple idol (Jugol Bigroho), a traditional religious festival of the Hindu community, has been held at Kantajiu Temple, also known as Kantanagar temple in Dinajpur district.

After completing the ceremony, the couple idol (Radha-Krishna) has left for the Dinajpur Rajbari (palace) Temple via the river from Kantajiu Temple.

Ranjit Kumar Singh, agent of Raj Debtara Estate today confirmed it.

The journey started from Dhepa river of Kaharol Upazila, under Dinajpur district, in the morning and will conclude at Kanchan river, after a 25-km cruise.

The idol will be kept at the Rajbari temple for three months, as devotees believe that there's a link between the palace and the deity's origin.

Kaharol Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mokleda Khatun Meem today attended the farewell to the procession of the Kantajiu couple idol on the banks of the Dhepa River.

At this time, in the presence of Hindu religious figures, district administration officials and police and army officials, the 'couple idol' left the Kantajiu temple ghat.

The couple idol set off with a total of 22 boats to cross the 37 ghats of the Dhepa River under the security of the law enforcement agencies.

After traveling 25 kilometers along the river in a boat fleet, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rafiqul Islam will welcome the couple idol at Sadhur Ghat in Dinajpur Sadar at 8 pm today.
