Five held with dredgers in Sitakunda, fined Tk 1.5 lakh

CHATTOGRAM, April 6, 2026 (BSS)- Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) arrested five 
individuals and seized five dredgers for illegally extracting sand in the 
Kumira and Banshbaria coastal areas under Sitakunda upazila of the district. 
 
They were fined and released on bail through a mobile court. 

Based on secret information, the mobile court conducted an operation with 
joint efforts involving the teams of BCG, Chattogram Port Authority and Naval 
Police in the areas and nabbed the sand lifters, the individuals who were 
involved in unauthorised sand extraction. 
 
The owner was fined Taka 1.5 lakh in the presence of the Executive Magistrate 
of Chattogram Port Authority. 
 
Later, the detainees were released on bail.
