
CHATTOGRAM, April 7, 2026 (BSS) - A meeting between the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) and the Netherlands Embassy to Bangladesh took place today to assess the advancements of the 'Integrated Solid Waste and Drainage Management Project' aimed at upgrading the environmental infrastructure of Chattogram city.
The meeting, led by Netherlands Ambassador Joris van Bommel, involved senior officials from the CCC and technical experts from the Netherlands, SweepSmart and CDR International. Expert organizations from the Netherlands also participated in the meeting.
The meeting focused on utilizing modern technology and sustainable solutions for waste management and drainage cleaning in Chattogram metropolis. The expert team presented the results of the pre-feasibility study on 'Integrated Solid Waste and Drainage Management'.
Chattogram City Corporation appreciated the study and committed to reviewing it thoroughly upon receiving the report. The implementation of modern methods in waste segregation and drainage management was seen as a significant step forward for Chattogram.
Various models of public-private partnerships were discussed for the sustainable execution of the project. CCC expressed interest in leveraging the Netherlands' expertise in water and waste management.
Chattogram City Corporation has made a positive commitment to secure the necessary land for the construction of the project's infrastructure. The CCC considers the Netherlands a strategic partner in this endeavor. The results of the pre-feasibility study and subsequent steps will help modernize and make Chattogram's waste management more environmentally friendly.
During the visit, the Dutch ambassador and delegation toured the Halishahar Landfill and Chattogram WASA Suarez Treatment Plant. The meeting was attended by Acting CEO and Secretary Md. Ashraful Amin, Chief Cleaning Officer Captain Ikhtiar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chief Education Officer Dr. Kissinger Chakma, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, Chief Accounting Officer Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Chief Health Officer Dr. Md. Imam Hossain Rana, Superintending Engineer (Municipality) Farhadul Alam, Malaria and Mosquito Control Officer Md. Sharful Islam Mahi, Mayor's Waterlogging Advisor Shahriar Khaled, among others. Representatives from the Netherlands Embassy, including First Secretary Inge Klassen, Expert Niltje Killen and Senior Policy Officer Shibli Sadik, were also present at the meeting.
