
NATORE, April 21, 2026 (BSS) - The Boro paddy procurement programme has officially commenced in the agricultural region of Chalan Beel, widely known as one of the country's major grain-producing areas.
The programme was inaugurated this afternoon by Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Natore, Md Habibul Islam Khan.
The event was attended by Singra Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdullah Al Rifat and Upazila Agriculture Officer Khandaker Farid Hasan, among others.
The inaugural harvesting took place on the cultivated land of ideal farmer Abul Kalam Azad in the Koyrabari area under Singra Upazila.
The Miniket variety of Boro paddy was harvested, with an expected yield of around 30 maunds per bigha.
According to Upazila Agriculture Officer Khandaker Farid Hasan, Boro paddy has been cultivated on approximately 36,610 hectares of land in Singra upazila this season.
To support the harvesting process, seasonal agricultural workers have already started arriving in the Chalan Beel region.
He added that the Agriculture Department has implemented effective measures to ensure a safe and supportive working environment for these workers.
Deputy Director Md Habibul Islam Khan expressed optimism over the current season's production, saying that favorable conditions, along with the combined efforts of farmers and the Agriculture Department, have contributed to a successful cultivation period.
He further said that the yield is expected to meet projections.
The Chalan Beel region plays a vital role in the country's food production, and the successful harvesting of Boro paddy is anticipated to significantly contribute to the national grain supply.
