MANIKGANJ, May 26, 2026 (BSS) – Homebound Eid passengers from the country’s 21 southwestern districts are enjoying a hassle-free journey as the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) has taken appropriate measures to ensure smooth travel.

BIWTC sources said no traffic congestion was seen at the Paturia and Aricha ghats, as adequate ferries are available at both sides of the Padma river.

The sources said that at present, 15 small, medium and large Ro-Ro ferries are operating on the Paturia–Daulatdia route, while five ferries are plying on the Aricha–Kazirhat route.

Besides, available launches are operating continuously on the Paturia–Daulatdia and Aricha–Kazirhat routes. A good number of speedboats are also ferrying holidaymakers, the sources added.

Deputy General Manager of BIWTC Paturia Abdus Salam said that no passengers had to wait at the ghats to cross the river.

He said all passengers travelling in vehicles must get down before boarding the ferries. “The instruction is being strictly maintained,” he added.

The district administration and police are continuously monitoring the situation at the ghats.
