SAVAR, May 26, 2026 (BSS) - Hundreds of thousands of people—including garment workers from northern districts and people from other professions—are leaving Savar for their village homes to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their families and relatives.

A 10-day general holiday has been declared at garment factories in Savar upazila, one of the country’s major industrial zones, ahead of the upcoming Eid.

Although traffic pressure had already started increasing on the Dhaka-Aricha and Dhaka-Tangail highways since Monday, many more people began their journeys this morning.

As the day progressed, the number of travelers on the highways continued to rise.

In addition to the increased number of passengers and vehicles, rainfall today also caused traffic congestion on the highways.

Eid holiday travelers were seen waiting for buses at various bus stands, including Aminbazar, Hemayetpur, Ulail Bus Stand, Savar Bazar Bus Stand, Nabinagar, Palli Bidyut, EPZ, and Zirabo Bazar along the highways.

However, several law enforcement agencies remain active on the highways to ensure smooth vehicular movement. Patrol activities have also been strengthened.

Officer-in-Charge of Savar Highway Police Station Md. Shahjahan said the Savar Highway Police are on high alert to ensure a smooth Eid journey for homebound passengers on the Dhaka-Aricha and Dhaka-Tangail highways this year.

“Whenever any problem occurs, our teams respond immediately. Members of other law enforcement agencies are also working to maintain normal traffic flow on these two important highways. So far, there have been no major traffic jams, although pressure from travelers has increased,” he added.
