CUMILLA, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - The district Detective Branch (DB) Police today seized 160,000 yaba tablets concealed inside a covered van using a sophisticated smuggling technique.

The drugs, estimated to be worth approximately Taka 4.8 crore, were hidden beneath sacks of salt and inside the vehicle's roof compartment.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Anisuzzaman disclosed this during a press conference held on Thursday afternoon.

Acting on confidential intelligence, a specialized DB team intercepted and searched a covered van that initially appeared to be transporting ordinary goods.

"At first glance, the vehicle seemed to be carrying only salt sacks. However, during a detailed search, officers discovered a large quantity of yaba tablets cleverly concealed behind the sacks and in a specially modified section of the vehicle's roof," he said.

Following an extensive search operation, DB officers recovered a total of 160,000 yaba tablets from the vehicle.

Police have launched an operation to arrest five individuals believed to be connected to the smuggling attempt.
