KURIGRAM, June 18, 2026 (BSS) - Rail communication to and from Kurigram remained disrupted on Thursday after a sand-laden truck overturned on a railway track in Rajarhat upazila, halting the movement of several trains and causing significant inconvenience to hundreds of passengers.

The accident occurred around 6.30 am on the Rajarhat–Teesta regional road. According to local sources, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling along the road. It (truck) skidded off the road and overturned on the nearby railway track, completely blocking the line.

Following the incident, railway authorities temporarily suspended train operations on the Kurigram–Teesta route for safety reasons. As a result, the Dhaka-bound Kurigram Express was unable to reach Kurigram Railway Station on schedule, while the movement of the Ramna Commuter train was also disrupted.

Railway officials, local administration representatives, and rescue teams rushed to the scene and took efforts to remove the overturned truck and restore the railway line.

Kurigram Railway Station In-charge Kanika confirmed the incident, saying, “A truck loaded with sand overturned on the railway track, blocking the line. Work is underway to remove the vehicle, but it is not yet possible to say exactly when train services will resume.”

Railway sources said that once the truck is removed, the track will undergo inspection and safety testing before train operations can restart. As of 4:00 pm on Thursday, train services on the Kurigram–Teesta route had not yet been restored.

Authorities said efforts were continuing to clear the obstruction and normalize rail communication as quickly as possible.
