Over 5 lakh people employed across 2.33 lakh economic Units in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, June 18, 2026 (BSS)- Rajshahi district has a total of 233,275 economic units, employing 501,787 people. 

Of these economic units in the district, 49.82 percent are permanent, 4.51 percent are temporary, and 45.67 percent are economic households.
 
This information was shared today at a seminar on "Dissemination of Final Results of Economic Census 2024 and Statistical Business Register" organized by the Divisional Statistics Office. 

The event was held in the conference room of the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner.
 
The seminar was chaired by Additional Divisional Commissioner Rezaul Alam Sarkar. Md. Abdul Halim, Joint Director of the Divisional Statistics Office, presented the keynote paper. 

Professor Rezaul Karim from the Department of Statistics at Rajshahi University and Md. Zakir Hossain, Joint Secretary of the Statistics and Information Management Division, discussed the paper.
 
According to the seminar, nationwide there are 11.7 million economic units employing about 30.6 million people. 

Of these units, 37 percent are in urban areas and 63 percent are in rural areas. At the national level, 83 percent of the employed workforce is male and 17 percent is female.
 
Data for Rajshahi Division shows it has a total of 1.681 million economic units with 3.409 million people employed. 

Among the districts in the division, Bogura ranks first with 337,000 economic units. Joypurhat ranks last with 87,832 economic units. Naogaon and Sirajganj rank second and third, respectively. Rajshahi district ranks fourth in the division.
 
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Foyzul Kabir, Additional Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Habibur Rahman, heads of various government and private offices, industry and factory owners, chamber representatives, and civil society members attended the event. 

Speakers at the seminar emphasized the importance of providing accurate information to enumerators to ensure correct statistics.
