DHAKA, May 5, 2025 (BSS) - Fact-checking body Rumor Scanner dubbed misleading a viral video claiming Myanmar Arakan Army's preparation on Bangladesh border for a military operation.

The fact checking watchdog in an investigation found that an old video of a different location is being circulated claiming that it is a scene of Myanmar Arakan Army who were taking preparation on the Bangladesh border for a military operation.

In a report published on its website today, Rumor Scanner said that this kind of video has been circulating online since at least last March as a video of the tension prevailing on the border of Ethiopia and Eritrea.

In investigation, a video posted on March 26 by an X account called 'El Druso' has been found by searching a reverse image using multiple key-frames.

Comparing the video with the video circulated in the disputed claim, similarities were found.

The caption of the X post about the video in Spanish language, "Both Ethiopia and Eritrea are deploying troops along their borders, in the context of a land-claim dispute between the two countries. Ethiopia sees the city of Assab as a possible target for access to the sea. Eritrea, on the other hand, is targeting the Tigray region."

In addition, videos of the incident were also posted by multiple X and Instagram accounts in the context of Ethiopia and Eritrea in March.

It is mentionable that the video was also posted in the context of the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan in April.

So, the video has been circulated as a video of tension on the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea even before the claiming video was circulated as the video of Myanmar Arakan Army's preparation on Bangladesh border for an operation.

Therefore, the claim that the video was a video of Myanmar Arakan Army's preparation on Bangladesh border is false.
