DHAKA, May 23, 2025 (BSS)- Fact-checking platform BanglaFact, operated by the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB), has identified that an old report on resignation of Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus from Grameen Bank in 2011 is being circulated on social media platforms as resignation from the post of chief adviser of the interim government.

BanglaFact's investigation found that a link of a report titled "Prof Yunus resigns" published in the mainstream media 'The Daily Star' is being circulated on the social media platform Facebook since Thursday afternoon.

In fact, the fact-check and media research team of BanglaFact identified that the Daily Star published the report on May 13, 2011.

At that time, Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus resigned from the post of managing director (MD) of Grameen Bank, the team mentioned.

BanglaFact also identified yesterday (Thursday) that the link of the report was shared on Facebook from a sarcasm page named 'The Delhi Star'. Later, netizens continued to share the news without verifying it and thinking that the page was the real page of 'The Daily Star'.

Netizens believed that Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus had resigned from the post of Chief Adviser to the Interim Government. This is how the rumor spread quickly on the Internet.
