MOSCOW, March 31, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Russia on Monday accused Ukraine's army of attacking energy sites in what it called a breach of Kyiv's commitments to hold off such strikes.

The United States last week said the leaders of both Russia and Ukraine had agreed to halt strikes on energy facilities -- though no formal agreement or ceasefire has been put in place and both sides have accused the other of launching fresh attacks.

Russia's defence ministry said Ukraine's army had launched a drone and artillery strike on energy sites in the Bryansk border region on Sunday evening.

It said the attacks damaged power lines and interrupted electricity supplies.

"The continuation of deliberate attacks by the Ukrainian army on Russia's energy facilities is evidence of the Kyiv regime's complete lack of commitment to its obligations regarding settling the conflict in Ukraine," the Russian defence ministry said in a statement.

Kyiv has also accused Russia of firing on its energy sites over the last week and called on Washington, which is pushing for a ceasefire, to react.
