Dinajpur-5 BNP candidate vows to improve living standards

DINAJPUR, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - BNP candidate for Dinajpur-5 constituency (Parbatipur-Phulbari) Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman has pledged to work for improving the living standards of the people and ensuring public safety if elected in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

In an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Kamruzzaman, also legal adviser to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, outlined his election pledges, views on election code of conduct, the July Charter referendum and expectations from the upcoming polls.

Asked what he would do if become elected for the constituency, he said that he would actively work to build safe localities in the two upazilas and give priority to overall socio-economic development. 

If elected, he would take steps for visible development of Barapukuria coal mine, coal-based thermal power plant and Madhyapara hard rock mine in Parbatipur Upazila.

Kamruzzaman also said initiatives would be taken to speed up activities of the country's largest railway junction and the railway locomotive factory in Parbatipur. 

The BNP candidate also expressed his intention to create employment by utilizing the potential of the rice mill industry and to develop the municipal areas of both upazilas as planned and aesthetic towns.

Asked about following the election code of conduct, he said party leaders and activists have been given proper instructions and that he and his supporters are strictly following all laws and regulations set by the Election Commission. 

"All campaign materials had been removed from his constituency after the election schedule was announced," he added.

Regardingthe implementation of July Charter referendum, Kamruzzaman said his party fully supports its implementation and has no differences of opinion on the issue.

Alongside seeking votes for the BNP's Sheaf of Paddy symbol in the parliamentary election, he said he is also urging voters to vote 'yes' in the referendum.

Asked about his hopes regarding the upcoming national election, Kamruzzaman said voters have regained their freedom to cast votes and expressed hope that people would vote in favour of BNP.

The BNP candidate said he expects a landslide victory in the election.
Dinajpur-5 constituency comprises Parbatipur and Phulbari upazilas, with two municipalities and 17 unions. The constituency has 141 polling centres and a total of 477,516 voters, including 238,584 male, 238,930 female and three third-gender voters.

Other candidates contesting the seat include NCP's Dr Abdul Ahad, Jatiya Party's Kazi Md Abdul Gafur, independent candidate and former district BNP convener and Parbatipur upazila BNP president AZM Rezwanul Haque, BNP leader Zakaria Bacchu, Advocate Md Hazrat Ali Belal and Md Rustam Ali.
