BSS: What is your election pledges for the voters of your area?
Sujan: We will create employment by building mills to improve the lives and livelihoods of the neglected people living on the banks of Teesta River, and we will upgrade Gangachara Upazila Health Complex into a 100-bed hospital. In addition, there are plans to build a Teesta protection dam, build infrastructure on the Teesta banks and build a picnic spot if we win the election. We want to develop Gangachara Upazila as a model police station.
BSS: What are your instructions to the leaders and workers to follow the election code of conduct?
Sujan: I have given clear instructions to all the leaders and workers of my party. The Election Commission's code of conduct must be followed. Rules could not be violated through violence, intimidation, use of posters or banners. We are peacefully presenting our programmes and promises to the voters. The administration and law enforcement agencies have been instructed to provide all-out cooperation to ensure free, fair and acceptable elections.
BSS: What is your position on the July Charter referendum?
Sujan: Referendum is the main strength of democracy. I do believe that the people are the real owners of the state and an acceptable government is formed only when their voting rights are established. My appeal to the voters is to ignore fear and attend the polling centres and vote for the candidate of their choice. I want the mandate of the people to be reflected in this election and the real aspirations of the people to be expressed through voting.
BSS: What are your expectations for the upcoming national elections?
Sujan: I expect a free, fair and impartial election, where all political parties will get equal opportunities. The Election Commission will fulfill its constitutional responsibility impartially - this is the expectation of the people. I believe that if the people can exercise their voting rights without any hindrance, then I will get the opportunity to implement the programmes I have announced to ensure development, employment and security of the neglected people of Teesta.
