DINAJPUR, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - Independent candidate AZM Rezwanul Haque, contesting from Dinajpur-5 (Parbatipur and Phulbari)constituency in the 13th national parliamentary election, has pledged to undertake development-oriented initiatives and build a safe constituency free from extortion and criminal activities.
A former convener of Dinajpur district BNP and president of Parbatipur upazila BNP, Rezwanul Haque said he is reaching out to voters with a sincere commitment to fulfill the aspirations and expectations of the people of the area.
In an interview with BSS Dinajpur district correspondent Rostom Ali Mondol, he outlined his election pledges, views on compliance with the election code of conduct, the importance of the July Charter referendum, and his expectations from the upcoming election.
He said his priority is to free the constituency from extortionists, alleging that criminal groups had flourished during the fascist rule in the past, creating unrest among peace-loving residents of the two upazilas.
He vowed to take strict measures against such activities to ensure public safety.
Rezwanul Haque also said he would take effective steps to prevent theft of resources extracted from the Barapukuria coal mine, the coal-based thermal power plant and the Madhyapara hard rock mine.
Alongside this, he pledged to take practical measures to reduce unemployment in the area.
On the election code of conduct, he said he and his supporters would strictly follow election laws and the code of conduct set by the Election Commission until the final day of campaigning.
Regarding the July Charter referendum, he said, "The July movement was the outcome of struggles by students, the masses and nationalist forces, and it must not be allowed to fail."
He expressed support for implementation of the July Charter and said, "We are encouraging voters to cast their votes in favor of the "Yes" option in the referendum alongside seeking votes for his polls symbol."
He urged the government and the Election Commission to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.
Dinajpur-5 constituency comprises Parbatipur and Phulbari upazilas, with two municipalities and 17 unions.
The seat has 141 polling centres and a total of 477,516 voters, including 238,584 men, 238,930 women and three third-gender voters.
Other candidates contesting the seat are BNP-nominated Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman, NCP's Dr Abdul Ahad, Jatiya Party's Kazi Md Abdul Gafur, independent candidates BNP leader Zakaria Bachchu, Advocate Md Hazrat Ali Belal and Md Rustam Ali.
