DINAJPUR, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS)- National Citizen Party (NCP) candidate under the Jamaat-led alliance for Dinajpur-5 constituency (Parbatipur-Phulbari) Dr Abdul Ahad has expressed strong determination to preserve the dignity of the people by implementing July Charter, if elected in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.

In an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), he promised visible development of the area's mineral resources,

creation of employment opportunities, establishment of a corruption-free society, and building a modern and livable Parbatipur and Phulbari upazila.

Replying to a question on his electoral pledges, Dr Abdul Ahad said voters in his constituency want peace and security and discard terrorism, corruption and extortion.

"We want to make this constituency free from corruption and extortion and ensure a safe and peaceful living environment for the people," he said.

He added that irregularities in resource extraction at Barapukuria Coal Mine, coal-based power plant, and Madhyapara Hard Rock Mine would be eliminated, if elected.

Emphasising youth employment, he said the NCP aims to improve healthcare and medical services in both upazilas.

On compliance with the electoral code of conduct, Dr Abdul Ahad said the NCP was formed through a disciplined movement and its leaders and activists are strictly following Election Commission's rules to ensure a fair and peaceful campaign environment.

Replying to a query about July Charter and referendum, he said the NCP played a leading role in the July movement and demanded justice for those killed and injured.

"The July Charter must be implemented to ensure due dignity to the martyrs and injured activists. We firmly support a 'Yes' vote in favour of the July Charter in the referendum," he said.

Expressing optimism about the upcoming election, Dr Abdul Ahad said a free and fair poll would allow voters to exercise their rights, adding that he and his party have a strong chance of victory through public support.

The Dinajpur-5 constituency comprises Parbatipur and Phulbari upazilas, with two municipalities, 17 unions and 141 polling centres. The total number of voters stands at 477,516, including 238,584 male voters, 238,930 female voters and three voters of the third gender.

Other candidates contesting the constituency include BNP nominee Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman, Jatiya Party's Kazi Md Abdul Gafur, independent candidate AZM Rezwanul Haque, BNP leader Zakaria Bacchu, Advocate Md Hazrat Ali Belal, and Md Rustam Ali.
