
RANGPUR, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - Rangpur-1 parliamentary constituency consists of Gangachara Upazila and wards 1 to 9 of Rangpur City Corporation.
Upazila Election Officer Ahsan Habib said the total number of voters in Rangpur-1 constituency is 3,71,970.
Of them, 1,86,337 are male voters, 1,85,629 are female voters, and 2 are third gender voters. In addition, there are 3,245 postal voters. The total number of polling centres in the constituency is 139.
Rangpur Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Ahsan has already allotted their respective party symbols to the six candidates participating in the parliamentary elections.
The candidates are: Jatiya Party candidate Barrister Manjum Ali (plough), BNP candidate Mukarram Hossain Sujan (paddy sheaf), Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Raihan Siraji (scale). Besides, Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (Marxist) candidate Ahsanul Arefin (scissors), Islami Front Bangladesh Md. Anas (chair) and Islami Andolan Bangladesh ATM Golam Mostafa (hand-fan).
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Raihan Siraji talked about his election promises and expectations in an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) roaming correspondent Mamun Rashid.
BSS: What is your election promises for the voters of your area?
Raihan Siraji: Ensuring basic human rights of the people of Gangachara is my main goal. Improving the quality of education, creating employment for unemployed youths, ensuring fair prices for farmers' produces and providing healthcare at the doorsteps of the people are my priorities. I want Gangachara to be a model upazila.
BSS: What are your instructions to your leaders and workers to follow the election code of conduct?
Raihan Siraji: I have clearly said there is no exemption on the issue of electoral rules and code of conduct. Peaceful campaigning, discipline and following the law are the beauty of our politics. There is no room for any kind of chaos or illegal activities. Every leader and activist has been instructed to conduct campaign maintaining modesty and patience.
BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?
Raihan Siraji: Referendum is the main strength of democracy. We will move forward as per instruction of the party on this issue. I urge the voters to go to the polling centres without fear and vote for their preferred candidate.
BSS: What are your expectations in the upcoming parliamentary elections?
Raihan Siraji: Voting rights are a constitutional right of the people. This is our desire that no one should take away from this right. I hope a free, fair and impartial election will be held, where the mandate of the people will be final. The verdict given by the people should be reflected in it - this is my only expectation.
