State Minister Rajib hopes safe travel on river routes amid Eid rush

DHAKA, Mar 19, 2026 (BSS)- State Minister for Shipping Md. Rajib Ahsan today visited the Sadarghat Launch Terminal to see the preparation taken for smooth journey of the home goers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

He supervised the launch operations and passenger management on the ground at Sadarghat Launch Terminal here this morning.

At that time, he inspected several pontoons to assess the overall situation and boarded multiple launches to check passenger numbers and took immediate action wherever overcrowding was seen.

The state minister asked the launch operators to remove the access passengers from the launch before leaving the terminal. 

The State Minister emphasized that no launch should operate with excess passengers under any circumstance. He instructed the authorities to maintain the highest level of vigilance to ensure passenger safety.
 
He also stressed on the importance of orderly operations of the vessels, preventing unhealthy competition and managing passenger boarding and disembarkation in an organized manner.

During the inspection, he also monitored the overall management of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA). Speedboats were deployed for close monitoring of the river traffic.

The Ministry of Shipping stated that comprehensive preparations have been taken to ensure safe, smooth and well-organized river travel during the Eid period and these measures will continue.

Officials from the Ministry of Shipping and other related agencies were present during the inspection.
