DHAKA, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - Police and army personnel in a joint drive on Wednesday arrested three suspects in connection with the gang rape of a minor girl at Ruma upazila in Bandarban.

The arrestees were identified as Kyasaiwang Marma, 19, son of Ahlamong Marma; Kyahlawang Marma, 22, son of Rangmeshe Marma; and Uhaising Marma, 23, son of Thoayinuching Marma. 

All of them are residents of Paindu Headmanpara, Ward No. 2 under Paindu Union Parishad in Ruma police station area.

According to a police press release, the trio was detained during a joint raid conducted between 2:30 pm and 6:30 pm on Wednesday.

Efforts are underway to arrest two more suspects involved in the crime, the release added.

Earlier, the five criminals in connivance with each other took fifth standard student aged 12 inside the teak garden on the hill behind the Paindu Model Union Health and Family Welfare Center located on the west side of Paindu Headman Para and forcibly raped her twice in turn on August 8 and 9. 

A rape case was registered in this connection. 

The victim is currently receiving care at the Victim Support Center under the supervision of the Child Affairs Police Officer of Ruma Police Station.
