BNP leader Selim Bhuiyan acquitted from corruption charge

DHAKA, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today acquitted BNP Cumilla divisional organizing secretary Selim Bhuiyan from a corruption case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

The Judge of the Special Judge Court-1 of Dhaka Abul Kashem pronounced the judgment as the allegations against the BNP leader was not proved during the trial.

ACC Assistant Director Abdul Wadud on June 20 in 2019 filed a case against Selim Bhuiyan with Ramna Model Thana for his alleged involvement in acquiring huge illegal wealth and concealing the information of his wealth. The ACC after detailed investigation submitted a charge sheet against him on February 13 in 2022. The court on August 24 in 2023 framed charges against Selim Bhuiyan.

According to the ACC, Selim Bhuiyan concealed information of wealth worth about Taka 1,09,75,932 in his wealth statement but the commission officials found his wealth worth about Taka 4,43,48,413. He also failed to show valid documents about wealth worth about Taka 1,31,00,883 to the commission that was his beyond known source of income.
