BARISHAL, Aug 21, 2025 (BSS) - Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, a member of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council, has said that Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), will soon return to the country and assume leadership of the party's political activities.

He made the remarks while exchanging views with journalists at the Barishal Press Club auditorium here today.

"Over the past 17 years, democracy, freedom of expression and civil rights have been systematically undermined," Alal said.

"Despite these challenges, BNP remains united. We will continue our political journey through movements and by standing with the people," he added.

Recalling a moment of historical significance, Alal noted that Barishal holds a proud place in Bangladesh's liberation history.

"Many in the younger generation may not know that in 1969, brave freedom fighter Siraj Sikder began training for the armed liberation struggle in the Swarupkathi Peyara Bagan area of Banaripara upazila in Barishal district.

That marked a vital chapter in our history," he stated.

Press Club President Aminul Islam Khasru, its Vice-Presidents Humayun Kabir and Zakir Hossain, veteran journalist Arup Talukder and representatives from various media outlets attended the event.
