SC lawyer dies after falling ill during court proceedings

DHAKA, Aug 25, 2025 (BSS) - Veteran Supreme Court lawyer Nurul Amin Mia died today after suffering a heart attack inside a High Court courtroom.

Witnesses said the senior lawyer suddenly fell ill around 12 noon while waiting for a hearing at the Annex 25 courtroom. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, all proceedings in both the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court were suspended for the rest of the day as a mark of respect.

Senior lawyer and former secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal expressed deep shock at the demise of his colleague.

"Our respected colleague, Supreme Court lawyer Nurul Amin Mia passed away from a heart attack during today's court session," he said, describing him as a humble and sincere individual.

"May Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus and give his family the strength to bear this loss," he added.

The namaz-e-janaza of the deceased was scheduled for 5:00 pm at the Supreme Court premises.

Known for his modesty and devotion to the legal profession, Mia's sudden death has cast a pall of grief over the legal fraternity.
