CID arrests ringleader of fraud gang in city

DHAKA, Aug 25, 2025 (BSS) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested ringleader of a fraud gang for allegedly amassing huge money by luring people to provide jobs. 
 
A CID team of Rangpur with the help of Mohammadpur Police Station arrested Golam Ahmed Sabbir, 57, in a raid at Dhaka Udyan around 12:45am today, said a press release. 
 
The detained Sabbir introduced himself as an influential person and promised to provide Md. Abdus Salam and Md. Raihan Ali with government jobs under the Ministry of Food. 
 
The duo gave Sabbir Taka 40 lakh. Of the money, Taka 15.10 lakh was given in cash and the remaining Taka 24.90 was deposited in the account of Al-Arafa Islami Bank opened in the name of the accused. 
 
After receiving the money, he provided fake appointment letters to the victims. 
 
Abdus Salam was given the post of Deputy Food Inspector in Sylhet region and Raihan Ali was given the post of Assistant Deputy Food Inspector in Khulna region. 
 
But when they went to join the workplace, both the appointment letters were proven to be fake. 
 
In this incident, a case was filed under sections 681/22, Section-406/420 of the Penal Code with the Kotwali Police Station of Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RPMP).
 
Investigation revealed that the accused has no permanent address.
 
 Although his ancestral house was in Brahmangaon village of Rupganj, he moved out of there with his family about 25-30 years ago. Currently, he is living as a tenant in different areas of the capital. 
 
Since his release on bail, the accused Golam Ahmed Sabbir was absconding and had changed his address and was hiding.
