Three jailed for torturing woman in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced three persons, including a husband and wife, to two years' imprisonment and fined them Taka 20,000 each for torturing a woman.

The convicted were identified as Md Abdul Mannan, 33, son of Md Ismail Hossain; his wife Jotsna, 28; and Md Shahjahan, 40, son of Abul Hossain, of Chechua village in Muktagachha Upazila of Mymensingh District. 

According to the prosecution, Abdul Mannan married the victim on May 15, 2019, after a Facebook relationship, concealing his first marriage and children. She started conjugal life in a rented house in Islampur Upazila, Jamalpur. Abdul Mannan took Taka two lakh and gold ornaments from her for business and later demanded another Taka five lakh. When she refused, the accused assaulted her.

The victim filed a case on September 1, 2021. Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of the Woman and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-1, after examining seven prosecution witnesses and documents, found the trio guilty. The verdict was delivered in the absence of Jotsna and Md Shahjahan.
