DHAKA, Mar 8, 2026 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain today visited the  National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital (NIMH) to oversee the hospital and its services.

State Minister Dr. M A Muhit accompanied the minister during the visit.

During the inspection, they expressed dissatisfaction over various irregularities, including bedbugs on patients’ beds, absence of doctors and the quality of food supplied to the patients.

They also spoke to the patients and relevant officials during the visit.

Health minister said the government is working to ensure proper services in health sector. “I will visit the hospital again within the next few days and strict action would be taken if any irregularities are found” the minister warned.

State Minister Dr. M A Muhit said, “The major problem is that despite being the country’s highest mental health hospital, it suffers from a leadership crisis. There are mismanagements here. The problems need to be addressed quickly.”

He also warned that no irregularities or mismanagement will be tolerated.
